When you join our lab we expect you to treat one another, and us, with respect. We are all human, we all make mistakes, and nobody knows everything. Try and abide by these guidelines when talking to other group members:
Due to the type of work that we do it is normal for members of the group to be awake and active in the lab at unsociable hours. However, this is only done on the basis of consent, and no one should feel pressured into working at unusual times of day.
Due to lab members often working at night or at late evening/early morning it may be quite usual for those members to send messages during their working hours.
The lab uses Slack as the main method of communication. Please set your contact preferences in Slack so you are not disturbed by messages during your down time.
Free time away from science is important – although IM means you can be reached anywhere, anytime it does not mean you should be. Please do not constantly reply to messages during your free time – people are sending messages during their hours of work, they may not be the same hours of work as you, and that is okay.
You may call the PI Dr Hearn, or Professor Hearn, but he probably won't reply to that. Please call him Tim, on account of it being his name.
Other group members may have their own preferences for how they are addressed, which reflect their own background and customs. Please respect this and if in doubt ask how someone wants to be addressed.
